PMIQ Mentoring Program 2012

PMI Queensland Chapter invites you to participate in its Mentoring program. Please feel free to look at the Program Plan below. We encourage you to apply to be either a Mentor or Mentoree. Please contact Jeanne Vaudrey, Mentoring Program Manager, if you wish to be either a Mentor or a Mentoree, or require further information by emailing professional.development@pmiqld.net.au.
The 2012 Mentoring Program is an integral part of the overall professional development services provided by the PMI Queensland Chapter. As either a Mentor or a Mentoree this program provides an opportunity for you to enhance your professional skills and to enjoy working collaboratively toward jointly established goals.

Mentoring is a relationship which gives people the opportunity to share their professional and personal knowledge and to grow and develop in the process. It is based on encouragement, constructive comments, openness, mutual trust, respect and a willingness to learn and share.
Mentoring has become an increasingly popular method of developing professional skills and knowledge. Its benefitsinclude:
1.      Just in time support: the Mentoree receives information and support when they need it.
2.      Relevance: real world issues can be discussed and progressed, and
3.      Customisation: this relationship exists to meet the needs of the two parties involved and can therefore be customised to suit those changing needs.

A proven Mentoring process underpins your ongoing Mentoring relationship. It identifies the various stages of the Mentoring process and provides useful reference and support material, including proformas that may be used for recording meeting outcomes and for reviewing your progress throughout the program.
Mentoring partners will be supported throughout the six months of the program by three workshops, facilitated by Mellish and Associates, a consultancy firm experienced in supporting Mentoring programs.  As well, PMI will provide ongoing coordination and support through its program coordinators.
The workshops’ venue will be confirmed at a later time.
The workshop schedule is:
Initial Briefing
Mid-Point Review
Final Celebration

Cost is $250 for PMI Members ($375 for non-Members)
Chapter Members wishing to participate should complete the downloadable application form and email it to professional.development@pmiqld.net.au. email us for closing date.

How are Mentors and Mentorees matched?
From the preferences in the profiles received from Mentors and Mentorees. High importance is given to the geographic location of the people as our experience shows that opportunity to meet regularly is a key success factor in the Mentor/Mentoree relationship. All Mentors will hold PMP® - Mentorees may or may not hold PMP®.

How many Mentorees can a Mentor work with?
Ideally Mentors work with one Mentoree at a time. However, sometimes it is appropriate for a Mentor to work with more than one Mentoree. This decision is based on what the Mentor feels is workable for them.
How often should Mentors and Mentorees meet?
A general guide is at least once a month, although many people find it more effective to meet fortnightly for around one to two hours.
Where and how should Mentors and Mentorees meet?
This depends on convenience for both parties. Many people find coffee shops a good option! Aim for a venue that offers a confidential and comfortable atmosphere. Distance Mentoring may involve regular phone and email contact in addition to face-to-face opportunities when available.
How long is a Mentoring partnership for?
This program will continue for six months.  There are a number of milestones along the way as outlined below:

What happens if the Mentoring partnership is not working?
If one party feels the partnership is not working:
Discuss this with the other person. Has there been a misunderstanding or a difference in expectations? Can the issue be resolved?
Discuss the issue with the coordinator from PMIQ.
If the issue cannot be resolved, then agree to move on without fault. Learn from what occurred in this partnership and consider how better agreement making could help avoid similar situations in future.
What support is provided for Mentors and Mentorees?
The initial, refresher and final workshops are being offered as a means of supporting the learning process. Support material will also be provided.
What PDUs can be Claimed?
In addition to the PDUs that can be claimed from the three formal workshops; PDUs may be claimed under category 2-SDL (Self directed learning) by Members holding PMP® status. As a guide 1 PDU can be claimed for each hour of structured learning up to a maximum of 15 PDUs per cycle.
